
Dr Luca Moretti is a medical doctor licensed with the Order of Physicians of Rome (registration no. 65292). He obtained his MD degree in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome and is a specialist in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine.
His professional profile is characterized by an integrated approach combining clinical practice, public health, healthcare process analysis and scientific research, developed through experience in hospital, community, military and emergency care settings.
Since March 2025, he has served as a Medical Director within the Strategic Directorate of ASL RM5, at the Unit for Healthcare Flow Management and Analysis of Care Processes. In this role, he is involved in the evaluation of care pathways, analysis of healthcare data, monitoring of performance indicators and support to organizational decision making, contributing to improvements in efficiency, appropriateness and quality of healthcare services.
From 2021 to 2025, he attended the Postgraduate School of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at Sapienza University of Rome, focusing on public health, epidemiology, prevention, healthcare organization and evaluation of care processes. These areas represent the core of his current professional activity.
He began his career by working as a locum general practitioner, gaining direct experience in primary care, chronic disease management and continuity of care. During this period, he also worked as a physician at the Hospice of the “Villa Rosa” nursing home in Viterbo, providing palliative care and clinical management of terminally ill patients, both in inpatient and home care settings.
His professional background also includes long standing experience at a family medical practice affiliated with the Italian National Health Service, operating in the fields of general practice, occupational medicine and medico-legal medicine. In this context, he was involved in medical record management, occupational risk assessment, preparation of medico-legal documentation and use of basic diagnostic equipment, developing methodological and organizational skills applied to clinical practice.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as a Medical Officer in the Italian Army with the rank of Lieutenant at the Military Polyclinic “Celio” in Rome, working within emergency healthcare units and COVID sub intensive care wards. In this setting, he took part in the Italian Army “Operation Coronavirus”, providing hospital care, diagnostic screening through nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs, and medical assistance to both military personnel and civilians. He was also deployed in “Operation EOS”, the Italian Army vaccination campaign, serving as a vaccinating physician and as Team Leader of mobile healthcare units in the L’Aquila area. His responsibilities included organization of vaccination activities, planning of interventions in hard to reach areas, home based vaccination of frail individuals and operational coordination of healthcare teams.
During the same period, he worked as a physician in COVID-19 vaccination centers of the Italian Red Cross, where he was responsible for clinical assessment of patients, informed consent procedures, administration of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines and management of potential post vaccination adverse reactions. He also carried out freelance professional activity for ASL Roma 2, working in facilities dedicated to the care of SARS-CoV-2 positive patients in low intensity inpatient settings and participating in reception and healthcare assistance activities for migrant populations in emergency contexts.
Alongside his clinical and organizational activity, Dr Moretti is actively involved in scientific research and is the author of numerous peer reviewed publications indexed in international journals. His research primarily focuses on epidemiology, preventive medicine, healthcare organization, infectious diseases, occupational medicine and related clinical and organizational aspects. He is also the author of chapters in medical textbooks.
Within the editorial project Angolo del Dottorino, Dr Moretti acts as medical author and scientific reviewer. He is responsible for the drafting, verification and updating of published medical content, with particular attention to oncological diseases, disorders of the digestive system, preventive medicine and the dissemination of evidence based medicine.
